Communications and Outreach
The Communications and Outreach Program supports VA Privacy Service’s mission by spreading privacy awareness through branded campaigns. Emphasizing how privacy is both a necessity and a priority at VA, we leverage focus groups with Veterans and employees to develop communications products, conferences, outreach, partnerships and symposia that has helped VA Privacy Service become the centralized, go-to source for information and tools to respect privacy and protect Veteran and VA employee data.
We implement three campaigns to spread privacy awareness across VA.
Privacy Matters. This effort provides privacy education, resources and best practices to Veterans, their beneficiaries and other external stakeholders. We hold events throughout the year (speakers’ series, symposia, webinars and Capitol Hill briefings) attended by those working in the privacy arena.
Privacy Builds Trust. This effort features
videos, posters, fact sheets and webinars targeting
VA employees reinforcing that privacy is a priority at
More Than a Number. This effort underscores that each piece of PII— birth date, Social Security number (SSN) or mailing address — is more than a number; it’s an identity and must be kept safe. The campaign provides a toll-free hotline (1-855-578-5492) and online resources to help Veterans protect their data and report data theft.
