Identity Safety Service

Who We Are

More Than a Number

The VA Identity Safety Service (ISS) was created in 2006 to directly serve Veterans who may have been affected by identity theft. It has since created a number of programs to directly prevent identity theft, to educate VA employees about identity theft prevention, and to build partnerships with government and non-profit groups to better combat identity theft.

The ISS “More Than a Number” initiative aims to raise awareness about identity theft among VA employees and educate them about the importance of protecting VA data. The campaign was even given the prestigious Public Relations Society of America-National Capital Chapter Thoth Award for Best Internal Communication Campaign in 2012.

What We Do

The mission of ISS is to educate VA employees and Veterans about the causes, effects, and prevention of identity theft, and to provide assistance to Veterans and other groups affected by it.

Initiatives

  • Identity Fraud Monitoring, Verification, and Mitigation
